The Cardinal McCarrick, Division held a Raffle Drawing this past month to raise money for the Late Bishop Michael A. Saltarelli Scholarship Fund which the division created to assist a poor family with paying for tuition to put their child through a catholic school.  The winning ticket was drawn on June 30th by Fr. Tom Flowers, of St. Polycarp Parish.  The winner was Danielle Wiley of Lewes, DE.  Pictured (LtoR) are AOH members Deacon Charlie Robinson, Division President Brian E. Lewis and Fr. On June 19, 2010, friends of our Division's Vice President, Mike Sullivan, gave him a surprise retirement party at Irish Mike's in downtown Dover.  Besides the enjoyment of his friends, Mike was presented with a certificate of recognition by the Mayor of Dover, the Delaware Senate and by the Governor of Delaware.  Below is a picture of Mike with his son.  More picture from the party can be found by clicking HERE.
Members of The Ancient Order of Hibernians- Theodore Cardinal McCarrick, Div. 1, Kent County, DE welcomed special guest speaker Dover Mayor Carleton Carey Sr., at their May Monthly Meeting and made the Mayor a Honorary Member of the division.  Pictured (L to R) AOH Chaplin Deacon Bob McMullen, Mike Sullivan, Vice President, Brian E. On March 23, 2010, Governor Jack Markell Proclaimed March as Irish Heritage Month through out the State of Delaware.

Accepting the Proclamation is Division Vice President Michael H. Sullivan and Delaware Governor Jack Markell.

At the March 11th AOH Meeting, division president Brian E. Lewis, presented Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Cardinal McCarrick Division for Protecting the Citizens of the State of Delaware through serving his country as a Captain in the Delaware National Guard. Beau Biden was stationed in Iraq last year and recently returned from overseas to resume his role as State Attorney General.

Beau, was invited to the March Meeting to discuss his Irish Catholic Heritage and welcomed to join as a new member. Biden, also discussed his role as State Attorney General and said he was honored to address the members of the division. Beau, is Vice President Joe Biden's oldest son.



At the February 22nd, City of Dover Council Meeting our Division President, Brian Lewis, was presented with an Award for his service as the Dover Human Relations Commissioner.  The award was presented by Dover Mayor Carleton E. Carey.  Lewis, stated it was an honor and privilege to serve as a Commissioner and hoped that he made a difference in the community while serving on the DHRC. Our Division our Division made a donation to help abused and abandoned animals on December 15, 2009.

On Thursday, November 19, 2009, The Cardinal McCarrick, Division donated two Turkey's to St. Polycarp Catholic Parish in Smyrna to help feed the needy and homeless in the area.

On Wednesday, November 18, 2009, The Division assisted the Holy Cross Columbiettes before the Thanksgiving Hoilday in preparing food and feeding the homeless men at the Interfaith Homeless Shelter.

At the November 12, 2009 meeting, The Division recognized Brother Jim Hannan on his 82nd Birthday.  Congratulations Jim!
At the October 29, 2009 Governor's Outstanding Volunteer Award ceremony, our Division was recognized by the Governor and received the Group Award for Human Needs and the Jefferson Award for their charitable work during the past year.  During the past year our Division worked with the Interfaith Homeless Shelter and Mission to purchase new sleeping bunks, donated food, work boots, toiletries, clothing and canned goods.

We also donated food to two Kent County Catholic Parishes that have food banks and played a vital role in improving the community by giving their time and resources to those in need of guidance and friendship.

Four new members were brought into our Division at our October 2009 meeting.  Shown in the picture from left to right are our President, Brian Lewis, Dan Serba, Tim Robinson and John Robinson.
At the September Division meeting, Brother Mike Sullivan presented our Division President, Brian Lewis, a trophy recognizing Brother Brian for the great work he has done during our first year.

On June June 11, our Division helped serve food at the Interfaith Homeless Shelter of Dover.  We also presented the Shelter with a check representing the proceeds from our last fund raiser.

Honorary Irishman joins parade!

Retired Bishop Michael Saltarelli participated in the St. Patrick's Day parade in Dover on March 14.  Bishop Saltarelli is an Honorary Member of the Cardianl McCarrick Division and rode in a car along with our members.  Shown in the picture from left to right is Erin Lewis; Mike Sullivan, Division Vice President; Bishop Saltarelli; Brian Lewis, Division President; and Deacon Bob McMullen, Division Chaplin (also St. Patrick for the Parade)

On  Monday, March 09, 2009 the Mayor and City Council of Dover made a proclamation declaring the month of March "Irish American Month."

On January 30, 2009, President Brian Lewis and Mike Sullivan presented a certificate of appreciation to retired Bishop Michael Saltarelli for his support to the Ancient Order of Hibernian's.  Bishop Saltarelli was also made an Honorary Member of the Cardinal McCarrick Division.
Brother Hibernians reached out to the homeless at the Interfaith Homeless Shelter in Dover donating a Ham, Pie and Clothing to shelter director.  Shown are (L to R) Erich Gillespie, Shelter Manager, Bro. Shortly before Thanksgiving, members of the Cardinal McCarrick Division donated turkeys to the food pantry at St. Polycarp Parish in Smyrna and to Holy Cross Parish in Dover.
